THANKS FOR PLAYING! 2009 was an outstanding year of growth. The festival ran June 12-14, and players came out to compete, smile, and have the time of their lives all weekend long. 33 games later, we are a stronger and happier community of designers, players, volunteers, and New Yorkers. Games took place throughout Times Square, Pier 84, Central Park, NYC Subway, Grand Central Station, and even Brooklyn. We all looked great, too, and partied hard. People loved being at The Tank and playing games in the middle of Broadway. Big thanks to our partners who made it all possible, including the dream of a white inflatable dome and access to a sweet HD screen.

There were also loads of super smart conversations - at the panel discussion and beyond - about how to advance these types of games and our budding industry around them. We are building a revolution!
Since we started in 2006, we've encouraged designers to view their being selected to run games at the festival as an honor. With the medium of new urban street games maturing, our annual selection pool gets bigger and better all the time. This year was an experiment to give special recognition to the very best of the best. With the help of 14 judges, we carefully picked winners for 2009. Look for these awards again in 2010, as well as a "Best Family-Friendly Game" award.
Congratulations to the 2009 Come Out & Play Award Winners:
